According to the latest reports from Football.London, Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their race to sign Nicolas Tagliafico. The Ajax defender had rejected a new contract offer from the Dutch heavyweights and his representative Ricardo Schlieper indicated that his client would look to move away in the summer. His agent, however, suggested that the Argentine international could look to move to Serie A outfit Inter Milan.
What did Schlieper say which will come as a blow to Arsenal?
Schlieper told FC Inter News: “Inter and Italian football are always attractive destinations for Argentine players. Let’s not forget, like it was once said, that we’re Italians who speak Spanish. Everything’s very familiar. It’s like being at home. Tagliafico has always been our priority for Italy, but in the most appropriate moment, we will find the right place. We will see what happens “.
Tagliafico’s agent didn’t mince any words and clearly indicated that a move to Serie A outfit is on the cards. That should come as a blow to Emery as reports added that he was keen to add a left back in the summer.
Does Arsenal really need a left back?
Arsenal have two decent left back options in the form of Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal. However, the latter is in the final few months of his contract at the club and given that he is already 33, it seems likely that Emery is looking to replace him.
If Arsenal doesn’t get their hand on a top left back, then it wouldn’t be a bad option to offer Monreal another short term deal as the Spaniard has shown that he can still take on the challenges of the Premier League.
What would Tagliafico have brought at the Emirates?
The 26-year-old has played a crucial role for his side down the left as Ajax has surprised everyone by qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals. The Argentine defender has been a regular feature for his team down the left, and he even has three goals to his name in the competition this season.
His link-up play down the left has been impressive, and his pace would have been a massive plus for Arsenal. Moreover, the fullback is dependable even on the defensive front as well. All in all, he would have been a complete package for the Gunners. However, after his agent’s latest revelation, Tagliafico is unlikely to move to England as his prefered destination is in the Serie A.
