According to a recent report by Calciomercato, AC Milan are prepared to secure the services of Tiemoué Bakayoko permanently from Chelsea next summer when his loan deal at the San Siro comes to an end.
The same source has revealed that the Italian giants will look to sign the midfielder permanently regardless of whether they end up securing UEFA Champions League football or not for next season.
Bakayoko’s Successful Loan Spell In The Serie A
Bakayoko is currently enjoying a successful campaign with AC Milan having established himself as a regular starter in Gennaro Gattuso’s first-team. Since completing his season-long loan switch to the San Siro last summer, the French talent has gone on to make 34 appearances for the Italian outfit this term, scoring one goal across all competitions. More importantly, he has made an average of 2.6 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per match so far this season (Stats taken from Whoscored).
Even though he needs to add more goals and assists to his game, Bakayoko has transformed himself into a reliable holding midfielder who can anchor the midfield by putting in some dominant displays on the pitch. It’s unfortunate that he was not able to replicate a similar kind of form for the Pensioners last season.
Now that Milan are willing to sign him permanently, Maurizio Sarri needs to decide on Bakoyoko’s long-term future at the West London club. If the Italian manager reckons that the French talent has not shown enough to justify a regular starting berth at Stamford Bridge next season, then he would be better of selling his prized asset.
Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Chelsea could benefit from selling Bakoyoko as it would free up space for other promising young players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek to make an impact in the first-team. Moreover, the French midfielder will also enjoy playing for Milan especially if he has Gattuso’s faith going into the new campaign.
Bakoyoko needs to play regularly if he wants to prove his worth in European football. His debut season at Chelsea was underwhelming, so it is high time for him to make amends and put in a consistent run of performances on the pitch. He will only get a chance to prove himself if he gets regular game time which is, unfortunately, something that Sarri might not be able to provide at Stamford Bridge next season.
