The end of the season is approaching, and with that, all the clubs will get a window for buying players so that they can reinforce their squad. Certain transfer rumours have already started emerging, and Rangers will need to add more firepower to their team if they want to run Celtic close next season.
The Bears were in the hunt midway through the campaign, and then Gerrard’s men lost their way. Celtic now stands nine points clear, and they are also in the Scottish Cup finals. Rangers’ biggest disappointment would have been to miss out on both the domestic finals, but Gerrard now needs to start preparing for the next season. Here are three players with whom Rangers have been linked within the past month or so and why they should try to sign them.
John Souttar
The Hearts of Midlothian centre back can be termed as one of the best defenders in the division. Rangers will lose the services of Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley in the summer, and there is no doubt that the club needs to go after a defender or two. Souttar has been linked with the Bears, and he could be a perfect fit at the Ibrox.
The 22-year-old defender looks calm and composed, and he is already a Scottish international. There is no doubt that Souttar would leave the Jambos at some point for bigger and better things. We feel that Rangers should go all out to sign this defensive ace as he has all the qualities which a defender needs to thrive in the Premiership. Given his age, the Scotsman has a huge ceiling to improve on, and he can be a superstar for the Gers.
Nick Powell
The former Manchester United player is in the final few months of his contract with Wigan Atheltic, and he is going to be available on a free transfer. Rangers desperately need a playmaker who can create that little bit of magic in the final third and Powell could be the perfect man to provide something like that. He has already been linked with Rangers.
Powell can even play as a striker up front, and on a free transfer, he can be the game-changing signing for the Gers. He can consistently contribute with goals and assists, and that is exactly what Rangers need.
Ryan Kent
A self-explanatory name on the list. The Liverpool winger has done wonders at the club and has emerged as one of the fan favourites. The improvement he has shown in the past few months has been telling, and that showcases the potential the English winger has at his disposal. Gerrard has already indicated that he wants him again in the summer. Whether its a loan or permanent, Rangers should go all out to sign him once again for the next season.
