Rangers are likely to come up way short in the Premiership as they currently sit 11 points behind Celtic in the table. They were also eliminated from both the domestic cup competitions even before reaching the finals. Steven Gerrard made wholesale changes to the squad last summer. This summer we expect him to make a few crucial signings and an outright playmaker should be on the agenda of the club.
Gerrard in November last year admitted that his side needs a no. 10. Not signing a player like that in January probably cost Rangers a shot at the title. However, we cannot be too harsh on the club for not being able to sign a No. 10 as it is often tough to sign good players in the middle of the season. So we expect them to go after a creative player in the summer and here are three players they could target.
Nick Powell
The former Manchester United man has already been linked with a move to Rangers. The 25-year-old currently plies his trade for Wigan Athletic in the Championship. The English playmaker is currently in the final few months of his contract with them.
Therefore Powell could be available on a free transfer. The midfielder has managed seven goals and seven assists in 27 Championship appearances for the Latics this season and Rangers should go after this no. 10.
Bradley Dack
The Blackburn Rovers man is currently the top scorer for his side this season. The attacking midfielder has managed 16 goals and nine assists in all competitions. Rangers would love to have someone who can contribute with such an attacking return from midfield.
The stats are even more impressive when we consider the fact that Rovers have struggled in the league as they currently occupy the 15th spot. In a better team, he can come up with better numbers. However, he could cost quite a fair bit in the summer given the season he has had.
Neeskens Kebano
The Congolese international came up from Paris Saint Germain’s youth setup and went on to make nine senior appearances for them. The 27-year-old currently plies his trade for Fulham who are destined to go down to the Championship. Kebano has been more or less out of the picture at Fulham since they moved to the Premier League as he has managed just six appearances for them this season.
Nevertheless, he can be a decent addition for Rangers in the attacking third. Kebano has decent pace and dribbling skills, and he can take on defenders and open up defences. Moreover, he could be available on a free transfer as his contract is expiring soon.
