According to a recent report by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of Torino midfielder Soualiho Meïté during the summer transfer window. The same source has revealed that Spurs are on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, who departed the North London club in January and has identified the Serie A talent as an ideal candidate to fill the Belgian midfielder’s shoes at White Hart Lane.
The French talent began his football career in AJ Auxerre before having spells at LOSC Lille, Zulte Waregem, AS Monaco and FC Girondins Bordeaux. The Paris born talent decided to seal a move to Torino last summer, and since then, he has been a real revelation at the Olympic Grande Torino Stadium.
Meite has been a solid presence in Torino’s midfield and has put in a string of commanding displays for them during this campaign. The 25-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Italian outfit this term, scoring two goals while creating two assists in all competitions.
He has also represented his country at various youth ranks but is yet to make an appearance for Didier Deschamps’s senior side.
Meite is a decent dribbler with the ball and is full of energy and running in midfield. He is a good passer of the ball and can be a powerhouse in midfield as he tends to win a lot of aerial duels for his team at the centre of the park.
Tottenham can benefit from acquiring a player of Meite’s strengths as he will add some steel to Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield. The French prospect’s acquisition will undoubtedly bolster Spurs’ midfield options heading into the new campaign. Pochettino currently has some talented holding midfielders at his disposal such as Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp, Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen vying for a spot in his starting XI.
Meite will only increase competition for places at White Hart Lane if Daniel Levy and co. manage to lure him to England ahead of the new season. The French powerhouse has the build to be a success in the English top-flight so a move to Tottenham might help him take his game to another level.
