According to a recent report by Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of Robert Skov from FC Copenhagen when the transfer window reopens this summer. The same source has also revealed that the Danish winger will be available for a bargain fee of £5m, but Spurs will face stiff competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers in pursuit of the Denmark Under-21 international.
The Danish wide man began his playing career for Silkeborg Youth before working his way up the club’s youth system to finally feature for their senior team back in 2015. FC Copenhagen decided to give him a chance at the start of 2018, and since then, he has been a real revelation for the Danish giants.
The 22-year-old has been in scintillating form for Ståle Solbakken’s side and has put in a string of match-winning displays for them during this campaign. He has featured in 40 matches for Copenhagen this term, scoring 26 goals while grabbing six assists across all competitions.
His numbers have been off the roof, so it is no wonder that some of the big Premier League clubs are looking to recruit him at the end of this campaign.
Skov primarily operates as a right-winger but is equally capable of featuring on the left flank if required. He boasts decent pace and an incredible turn of speed which helps him dribble with the ball and beat his marker down in the wide areas. Furthermore, his shots also pack a lot of power that makes him such a potent goal-threat.
The potential acquisition of Skov will undoubtedly bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s attacking options at White Hart Lane. Spurs currently have the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Lucas Moura, Heung-min Son and Erik Lamela battling for a wide berth in Pochettino’s starting XI. Skov’s addition will add more depth and increase competition for places within the Tottenham squad.
At 22, the Danish midfielder still has a lot of room for improvement. However, what makes him so unique is his ability to score goals consistently for a sustained period. If he can replicate even half the number of goals he has scored this season in the Premier League, then he is a winger worth pursuing.
