Celtic’s top job is still up for grabs as Neil Lennon has only been appointed up until the end of the season. However, there is no doubt that he is the favourite to take over in the summer permanently as he has done well to keep the Hoops on track after Rodgers left them in a lurch.
The fact that the manager has already started discussing transfer plans for the summer iterates the same to us that the club is seeing Lennon as the permanent option. Now, club captain, Scott Brown recently gave a clear indication that he wants Lennon to continue. When the club captain says something like this, then it’s more or less certain that he would stay beyond this season as well.
Brown said (The Scottish Sun), ”The manager has been great. He got chucked in at the deep end, but he’s dealt with that situation really well. He speaks really well in front of the lads, training has been exactly the same as it was with Brendan Rodgers and the lads have set the tone and know it’s a fresh challenge. He’s calmer and more chilled than he was the last time.”
”He has been away and learned a lot. He’s more mellow and is enjoying every single moment of it. We won seven trophies out of seven under Brendan and if there’s any man who’s going to fill his shoes it’s Neil. He believes in himself and has been brilliant.”
It’s clear that Brown wants to see Neil Lennon continue as he knows the club and the players inside out. A new manager coming in might take some time to settle in and his new ways might not be easily implemented by the players.
This is often the case as people don’t like change and want to be in their comfort zone. We feel that if the Celtic board can get their hands on the likes of Marco Rose, Rafael Benitez or even Roberto Martinez, then they should look to appoint one of them. All three have been linked with a move to Parkhead and the three would bring something new at the club.
There’s nothing wrong in Lennon and it would be tough to ignore him if he delivers the treble. However, the three mentioned names could take the club to the next level and that is what Celtic should aspire to do. But with Brown blatantly wanting Lennon to take over next, it could be tough for the board to ignore his calls and we can be more or less certain now that the former Hibs manager would take over at the club in the summer.
