Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Anfield to clash heads with Liverpool on Sunday evening hoping to bounce back from their disastrous 2-1 loss away at Southampton earlier this month. The North London side cannot afford to drop any points as they risk being overtaken by their local rivals, Arsenal in the Premier League table.
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to opt for a 4-1-2-1-2 formation as he looks to establish Spurs’ dominance at the centre of the park. However, only time will tell whether choosing for a diamond shape in midfield would be enough for them to get past the energetic Liverpool midfielders this weekend.
4-1-2-1-2 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Hugo Lloris will be the man in between the sticks for Spurs despite shipping in two goals against Southampton before the international break. The French keeper will be protected by the experienced centre-half pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as they look to keep the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah quiet on Sunday evening.
Serge Aurier might get the nod to start at right-back while Danny Rose looks to use his pace down the left flank. Pochettino will need his defenders to be at their best if Spurs are to come away with anything from Anfield.
Midfield
Eric Dier will operate as the defensive midfielder as he aims to shield the Spurs back four by breaking down some of the Liverpool attacks. The dynamic duo of Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko will look to be more inventive while playing just ahead of Dier as part of Pochettino’s midfield.
Dele Alli might get the freedom to float around the home team’s box as he looks to create some opportunities for Kane and Son up top.
Attack
The North London giants will have both Harry Kane and Heung-min Son leading the charge in the Liverpool half. The duo have worked well together in recent weeks, so this match will be another chance for them to impress as a striking pair.
However, they will be up against one of the best defenders in Europe in Virgil Van Dijk who won’t make life easy for them this Sunday.
