According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Manchester United interim manager, Ole Gunnar Solkjaer wants to bring Leicester City centre-back, Harry Maguire to Old Trafford next summer. The same source has revealed that the Red Devils are confident about their chances of signing the English defender in a £65m deal at the end of this campaign.
The England international has managed to establish himself as one of the top centre-backs in the Premier League and has been an integral member of the Foxes’ backline over the past couple of seasons. He has put in a series of impressive displays for them during this campaign, and his incredible defensive contributions have helped the West Midlands outfit climb to the top half of the league table.
Maguire has featured in 27 matches for Leicester this term and has three goals to his name across all competitions. More importantly, he has made an average of 1.0 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 4.8 clearances per game in the Premier League.
There is no doubt that the English defender is a proven talent who will make a positive impact at Old Trafford if given a chance to showcase his worth for the Red Devils.
Maguire has also earned 16 international caps for the Three Lions and has scored one goal for his country so far. He is an invaluable asset for Brendan Rodgers at the King Power Stadium, and it will be a big blow for the Foxes if they lose him in the summer.
The 26-year-old is a commanding presence and can be an aerial threat at both ends of the pitch. The Leicester defensive ace can make important clearances for his team and is an old-fashioned, no-nonsense centre-half. Maguire’s acquisition will undoubtedly bolster Man United’s defensive options at Old Trafford.
Solkjaer currently has the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo vying for a place in his starting XI. One can argue that Maguire will be an upgrade over any of them and will add some much-needed quality to the Red Devils backline. All in all, the England international will be a fantastic fit for Mancunian giants as he can come in and help them challenge for major silverware once again next season.
