West Ham United dished out a clinical performance at the London Stadium against Newcastle United as they won the match by 2-0. Both the goals were scored in the first half by midfielders Declan Rice and Mark Noble as they sunk the Magpies in their own backyard.
The Hammers looked determined to get all three points from the encounter and got the led early in the match as Rice headed home from the corner taken by Snodgrass in the 7th minute. The lead was doubled by Mark Noble as he slotted the ball past the keeper with ultimate ease. The scoreline remained the same until the final whistle as West Ham United picked up another important win to move to the ninth position in the league table.
Here is how the West Ham United players are rated from their win against Newcastle United.
Lukasz Fabianski: 7
Didn’t have much to do with most of the Newcastle United players going wayward with their efforts. Made a couple of regulation saves though.
Ryan Fredericks: 6
Made a few good runs down the right flank and was able to deliver the ball in the danger area. Looked a bit shaky while defending though.
Issa Diop: 7
Stood firm in the face of Newcastle attacks. His physicality gave him a significant edge over the likes of Diame and Rondon throughout the match.
Angelo Ogbonna: 6
Looked a bit on the backfoot in the first half, but did well to partner Diop and help Fabianski leave the pitch with another clean sheet.
Aaron Cresswell: 5
His darting runs down the left flank were missing as Cresswell looked more concentrated towards defending on the night. His night, however, was cut short in the 34th minute as Manuel Pellgrini opted to use Arthur Masuaku in his place.
Declan Rice: 8
Another brilliant performance from the midfield ace as he owned every blade of grass in the middle of the pitch with his physicality and close control on the ball. Gave his side an early lead with a thumping header.
Mark Noble: 7
Superb composure from the veteran midfielder as he made sure to keep the ball possession high. Was a surprise candidate to take the spot kick but slotted it past Dubravka with absolute ease.
Manuel Lanzini: 8
The Argentine seemed like he had never left the field as he performed exceedingly well against the Magpies. From his darting runs down the heart of the pitch to his rabona flicks over the opposition defenders, Lanzini made it all look too easy as he deceived the Newcastle defence throughout the match. A befitting return to the starting lineup for the West Ham United playmaker.
Robert Snodgrass: 6
Delivered a pinpoint corner to find Rice as he gave his side the lead early on. Looked a bit tired as the game progressed.
Felipe Anderson: 6
Made a few errors as he gave away the possession with inaccurate passes in the second half after having a decent first half. Deceived the opposition defenders with his classy footwork on many occasions.
Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez: 6
Led the line with conviction in the first half but looked lacklustre as the game progressed. Was substituted with Marko Arnautovic in the second half.
Substitutes
Arthur Masuaku: 6
Played well after replacing Cresswell. Looked solid defensively.
Marko Arnautovic: 6
Made a few sharp turns in the box to deceive the Newcastle defenders but could not unleash the final shot.
Pedro Obiang: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
