According to a recent report by Goal France, Arsenal are plotting a move to secure the services of Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr in the summer. The Gunners got an opportunity to witness the Senegalese international up close and personal during their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 two-legged tie against the French outfit.
Goal France are now claiming that the North London giants have held talks over a potential deal which would send the Ligue 1 talent to the Emirates Stadium during the summer transfer period.
Sarr has enjoyed a very productive campaign for Rennes thus far and has already put in some majestic displays for the Ligue 1 outfit during this season. The 21-year-old has broken out as one of the brightest young prospects in French football. He has also managed to nail down a first-team place in Julien Stéphan’s team.
The Saint-Louis born youngster began his career at the Senegalese club, Generation Foot before making a switch to Europe to play for FC Metz. He had a terrific debut campaign for the French outfit which saw Rennes snap him up in the summer of 2017.
Sarri has made 39 appearances for Stephan’s side this term, scoring ten goals while providing 11 assists across multiple competitions. His performances in the UEFA Europa League has mainly caught the eye as he played an integral part in Rennes’ run to the Round of 16 of the competition.
At the tender age of 21, he has managed to secure 20 international caps for the Senegalese national side and has two goals to his name for his nation. Sarr is also highly versatile and can operate in multiple positions across the frontline. He primarily plays as a left winger but is also capable of playing on the right or as a centre-forward up top.
His playing style is pretty similar to his international compatriot, Sadio Mane so the Gunners would be getting a player with massive potential if they can lure the Senegalese to North London next summer. The potential acquisition of Sarr will undoubtedly bolster Unai Emery’s attacking options at the Emirates. Sarr boasts blistering pace and is a very productive dribbler with the ball at his feet. However, he is still quite a raw talent and would need to be nurtured into a world-class winger in the coming years.
