According to a recent report by the Express, Real Madrid are ready to use Gareth Bale in an attempt to convince Tottenham Hotspur to part ways with Christian Eriksen in the summer. The same source has also revealed that Los Blancos are prepared to give up on the Welsh winger after he failed to step up to the plate following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus last year.
As far as Spurs are concerned, they are in a difficult predicament as Eriksen’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season. The Express has now claimed that the Galacticos are ready to offer Bale plus around £50m to lure the North London outfit into letting their Danish talent leave for the Spanish capital next summer.
Eriksen has been one of Mauricio Pochettino’s most influential players on the pitch since his the Argentine manager’s appointment at White Hart Lane. The Danish playmaker has proven his worth on the pitch time and again which has helped him find success in the Premier League. However, he is yet to win any major trophies with Spurs since his switch from Ajax in the summer of 2013.
On the other hand, Gareth Bale has been highly successful with Los Blancos. But it is easy to forget that he initially made his mark at Spurs before his big move to Real Madrid back in 2013.
However, he has always lived under the shadows of some of his teammates throughout his career at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium which has not helped his cause of winning over the club’s supporters.
Another reason for Bale’s underwhelming career at Madrid has been his poor track record with injuries which is why both the club and the player needs a fresh start now more than ever. Spurs can be a fantastic destination for Bale as he might get the opportunity to re-establish his reputation at the highest level of English football.
The Welshman was once hailed as a hero at North London so he will be welcomed back with open arms by the Tottenham supporters. However, if there is even a slight chance of retaining Eriksen’s services for the long-run, Pochettino should take it as losing the Danish international for Bale won’t bode well for them in the long-run.
