According to a recent report by AS, Real Madrid have moved ahead of Manchester United in the chase to secure the services of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot next summer.
The same source has revealed that Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Spanish capital has seen Los Blancos renew their interest on the French talent, who is set to become a free agent at the end of this campaign.
Rabiot’s contract at Paris will run out in the summer so he would be a quality acquisition on the cheap for any of his potential suitors. The French midfield ace has struggled to get regular first-team opportunities under Thomas Tuchel, but he has still managed to impress with some match-winning contributions during this campaign.
The 23-year-old has featured in 20 matches for PSG this term, scoring two goals while grabbing two assists in all competitions. He has also earned six international caps for France thus far in his playing career. There is no doubt that the Galacticos’ interest will make it difficult for the Reds of Manchester to seal a move for the Saint-Maurice born sensation in the off-season.
Even though Madrid has reportedly moved ahead of them in the race to sign Rabiot, the Mancunian outfit should try their best to convince the player to make a move to the north-west of England. Rabiot is blessed with a wonderful passing range and can open up the opposing defence with a decisive through-pass. He would have added a lot of quality to the Man United midfield which is already brimming with talents such as Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira.
For a player who has not featured for his club regularly this season, it could be a gamble for the Red Devils to opt for his services. The fact that he is available for free makes it a bitter pill to swallow for Ed Woodward and co. at Old Trafford, if they do end up missing out on Rabiot in the summer.
For now, Solskjaer should concentrate on finishing the season strong as missing out on a top 4 place at the end of this campaign could be detrimental to his team’s chances of landing their top targets during the summer transfer window.
