According to Fox Sports pundit Simon Hill (via Sheilds Gazette), Huddersfield Town midfielder Aaron Mooy should join a club like Newcastle United next summer. In a recent interview (via Sheilds Gazette), Hill shared his thoughts on the Australian international’s future and said, “Probably not Celtic because they’ve got Tommy Rogic but you never know. I just wonder whether (a move to Rangers) might be a possibility.
“Or maybe somewhere like a Newcastle. “Let’s be honest, he’s not going to go to Man United or Man City or Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea etc but I think that next tier down of club is a possibility.”
Hill’s recent comments seem logical as Mooy had proven his worth last season when he showed everyone what he is capable of on the pitch. His incredible goal-scoring contributions under David Wagner’s leadership last season was enough for the Terriers to survive the drop. However, the West Yorkshire outfit has struggled to score enough goals up top with Mooy not even guaranteed a regular starting place in the Huddersfield first-team.
Things have gone from bad to worse as Huddersfield are currently sitting rock bottom of the league standings. It seems like they are destined to be relegated at the end of this campaign which would be a real shame. However, that could pave the way for Mooy to join another club where he can look to get his career back on track.
Newcastle could be an ideal destination for the Aussie and his hopes of playing in the Premier League every week. Mooy is a box to box midfielder who can score goals consistently when playing with confidence on the pitch.
The 28-year-old can also pick out a pass from midfield and will not shy away from the ball. The Magpies could use a player of his ability especially after their squad has been stretched thin following Sean Longstaff’s injury last weekend.
Mooy’s potential addition will undoubtedly bolster Benitez’s midfield options at St. James’ Park. Newcastle currently have some decent midfielders in their ranks such as Jonjo Shelvey, Ki Sung-Yeung, Mohamad Diame and Isacc Hayden who are all vying for a midfield berth in Benitez’s starting XI. Mooy could be an upgrade over any of them as he will add a few goals and assists to this Newcastle team which might go a long way in helping them challenge for a top half finish next season.
