It was a disappointing outing for Rangers in the Old Firm derby against Celtic as they lost the match by 2-1. Odsonne Edouard scored the opening goal of the match in the 27th minute. Rangers faced a huge setback as the main man in their attack, Alfredo Morelos, was sent off for an early shower in the 31st minute of the match as he could not control his temper (who could have seen that coming!).
In the second half, the Gers looked determined to get back into the match and did so in the 63rd minute via Ryan Kent. Their resistance, however, was not enough to restrict the Hoops as they scored the winning goal in the dying minutes of the match via James Forrest and won the contest in the end.
Here is how the Rangers players were rated from their defeat against Celtic.
Alan McGregor: 5
Looked shaky throughout the match. The two goals he conceded would definitely hurt his confidence.
James Tavernier: 7
Tried his level best to get the ball up the pitch with his accurate passing and diligent runs down the right-hand side of the pitch. Dished out a delectable delivery to set up Ryan Kent in front of the goal to bring his team back in the match.
Connor Goldson: 5
Looked absolutely out of sorts throughout the match as the opposition strikers got the better of him. Should have done better to prevent both the goals.
Ross McCrorie: 6
A disappointing performance in the first half. Came back well in the second half though as he played on the shoulders of Edouard until the end of the match.
Joe Worrall: 6
Tried to dispossess the opposition players off the ball with his well-timed tackles. Was not able to go into the attack and get the ball up the pitch.
Andy Halliday: 5
Could not do anything to get the upper hand over Scott Brown. An absolutely lacklustre performance from the midfield ace.
Ryan Jack: 6
Tried his best to get the ball up the pitch. Could not do much against the physicality of Ntcham though.
Scott Arfield: 5
Definitely not his best match. Scott Brown was all over him in midfield.
Daniel Candeias: 6
Looked far from threatening in the first half. Did better to initiate attacks in the second and got the ball in the danger area a few times with no one to take advantage.
Ryan Kent: 7
With no one to lead the line after Morelos’ dismissal, the onus was on him to score the goal, and he did his best in that respect. Brought his side back into the match with a goal in the second half but it was not enough to save the day for the visitors.
Alfredo Morelos: 0
It is time the Colombian acts more responsibly and gets a grip on his emotions. This is not the first time that his early dismissal has got his team in trouble and maybe it is time Steven Gerrard thinks of staring with Jermain Defoe in the upcoming matches. After all, nine yellow cards and three red cards in one season is never a good statistic, that too for a striker.
We usually give players a 2 if it is a legitimate red card within the first 45 minutes. Given that Morelos is now a repeat offender, we feel that the least we could do is give him our lowest ever rating. EVER.
