Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has recently revealed that it would be a ‘dream’ to play for Real Madrid but has also admitted that he is happy with life at Old Trafford. In a recent interview (via the Metro), the French talent said, ‘Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.
‘There is also [Zinedine] Zidane as a coach and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football.
‘For now, I’m at Manchester. We don’t know what the future holds. I’m at Manchester and I’m happy.’
Pogba’s recent words might worry some Man United fans especially when the club is currently facing an uncertain future as they are yet to decide on their next permanent manager after Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s interim spell. There has been a lot of encouragement surrounding the Norwegian’s chances of landing the managerial role permanently. One thing’s for sure, any candidate who ends up getting the head coach position in the summer would need Paul Pogba to stay put at the club for the long-run.
There is always a risk that an elite European club like Los Blancos could poach him from the Theatre of Dreams, but for now, the French midfielder is happy and content at the red half of Manchester.
The Man United supporters have seen both the good and the bad sides of the French international this season. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was quite underwhelming under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship in the first half of this campaign. However, following Solkjaer’s arrival as the club’s new interim boss, Pogba has turned his fortunes for the better at Old Trafford and is now looking like a world-class midfielder once again.
Unless the Red Devils fail to secure UEFA Champions League football for the next campaign, it is quite likely that Ed Woodward would want to retain Pogba’s services for the long-run. However, if they do end up missing out on a top 4 finish, then the French midfield ace’s head might be turned, and it would be difficult to convince him to stay.
The 26-year-old has scored 14 goals and created 11 assists in 37 matches for the Reds of Manchester this season across all competitions. His recent words should be taken with a pinch of salt as long as Solkjaer manages to lead them to a top 4 finish at the end of this campaign. However, if the club misses out on Champions League football next season, then there is every reason for the Man United fans to be concerned about their star midfielder’s long-term future in England.
