According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Manchester United are now in the running to secure the services of Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea. However, the same source has also claimed that the Red Devils would face stiff competition from a whole host of clubs which include Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the England international.
The talented teenager’s contract at Stamford Bridge runs out in the summer of 2020, and so the Pensioners might have to cash in on him at the end of this campaign or risk losing him for free when his contract expires next year. The 18-year-old has been a sporadic feature under Maurizio Sarri this season with most of his appearances in the Premier League coming from the bench. Sarri has often opted to start him in the cup competitions but is yet to give him a run of games as a first-team starter thus far.
The fact remains that none of the Chelsea attackers have managed to find consistency with their performances on the pitch and so it is difficult to interpret why Sarri has not utilised Hudson-Odoi’s talents more often in the top tier of England this season.
The English wonderkid has made 24 appearances for the Pensioners this term, registering six goals while creating six assists across all competitions. His productivity as a teenager has been quite impressive, so it is no surprise to hear about some of Europe’s most successful clubs chasing after his signature.
The London-born winger battled his way up the youth ranks of Chelsea and is on the verge of nailing down a first-team place at the highest level. He has outstanding pace under his belt and is very direct with his runs down the wide areas. The Premier League starlet is not afraid to take on his marker and get to the by-line so that he can whip in some dangerous balls into the opposition box. He has also shown enough maturity in front of goal which has made him one of the most sought-after young wide men in European Football.
The addition of someone of Hudson-Odoi’s potential will undoubtedly bolster Man United’s attacking options at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solkjaer has currently got some skilful young wingers in his squad such as Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Andreas Pereira. Even with so much talent, the Red Devils can improve their attack even further if they can somehow manage to orchestrate a deal for Hudson-Odoi in the summer.
Ed Woodward and co. should do everything in their power to bring the English speedster to the Theatre of Dreams as he has all the makings to be a success at Manchester.
