According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester United are leading the chase to secure the services of their former player Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace this summer. The same source has also claimed that the Eagles star is rated at £70m and the Red Devils will receive a 25 per cent cut of the profits from Zaha’s next move, as per the terms of his transfer to Palace back in 2015.
The Ivory Coast forward has been a real revelation since his move to Selhurst Park. He has put in quite a few match-winning displays under Roy Hodgson’s tutelage over the past couple of seasons. Zaha has featured in 28 matches for the Eagles this term, scoring eight goals while creating five assists in all competitions.
The 26-year-old began his career in England playing for Palace before earning a dream move to Old Trafford at the start of 2013. However, things did not work out for him on the pitch, so the Red Devils decided to send him out on loan to Palace and Cardiff City respectively.
Zaha was finally offloaded permanently to the Selhurst-outfit where he has risen to prominence and has become one of the most feared forwards in the Premier League.
The Ivory Coast international boasts blistering pace and is full of tricks. He can beat his marker and get to the byline to either conjure up a goal-scoring chance for himself or set up his teammates. There is no doubt that he will fit into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s system seamlessly at the Theatre of Dreams.
The potential acquisition of Zaha will undoubtedly bolster Man United’s attacking options for the new campaign. However, the Red Devils have a plethora of talented wingers at their disposal such as Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata vying for a place in Solskjaer’s first-team. Hence, one could argue whether United need another wide man in their ranks as they already have enough talent at the club.
If they are planning to let one of their current wing options leave, then Zaha would be a fantastic addition to Solskjaer’s squad as he has the potential to become world-class in the coming years.
