According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester City are in the driver’s seat to secure the services of Benfica striker Joao Felix. The same source has revealed that the Citizens are set to beat Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus in pursuit of the Portuguese wonderkid.
The 19-year-old began his youth career playing football in Portugal and featured for clubs such as Dragon Force and FC Porto before his high-profile switch to the Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica back in 2015. Felix has fought his way up the club’s youth system before finally breaking into Bruno Lage’s senior team in the first half of this campaign.
The Liga NOS talent has surpassed expectations this term after putting in a series of eye-catching displays for Benfica over the past couple of months. At the tender age of 19, he has made a total of 25 appearances for the Eagles this season, scoring ten goals while creating five assists in all competitions.
He has also represented Portugal at various youth competitions and is destined to play an integral part for his nation soon as long as he can continue improving his game over the next few years.
The Benfica wonderkid is highly versatile and can play in multiple positions across the frontline. He primarily operates as a secondary forward but is also quite capable of making an impact from the number 10 position or the left flank. The Viseu born dazzler boasts incredible pace which helps him dribble with the ball at top speed out in the wide areas.
Felix’s potential acquisition will undoubtedly bolster Pep Guardiola’s attacking options at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens will benefit from sealing a move for the Portuguese starlet as he could be nurtured into a world-class player in his position. However, he is still quite raw so Guardiola would need to be patient with him.
Furthermore, the Man City squad is full of quality, proven players so Felix might not get enough game time on the pitch which is a cause for concern. The Portuguese striker is a star in the making so the Citizens will do well to snap up ahead of the new season.
