According to a recent report by Parisunited.fr, Liverpool have joined Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the chase to secure the services of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot next summer. The same source has also claimed that the Reds are the latest club to have shown interest on the French talent who will ask for a salary in the region of €10m post-tax per year.
The fact that he will be available on a free transfer in the summer indicates that there would be a fight between a whole host of clubs in pursuit of the French midfield ace. There is no doubt that the Merseyside giants could benefit from having a player of Rabiot’s ability in their squad.
Jurgen Klopp currently has some quality midfielders in his ranks such as Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who are all vying for a place in the Liverpool starting XI.
However, none of them has shown enough creativity and dynamism from midfield which will be a cause for concern. Thus, recruiting someone like Rabiot could help them breakdown the sides who sit back and defend in numbers which has frustrated the Merseyside outfit in the recent past as evidenced by the draws against Leicester City and West Ham United last month.
Liverpool have slumped from first to second place after only being able to secure a point versus Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday. Klopp’s men will now have nine matches to look forward to as they aim to pip Manchester City to the Premier League title.
The Reds can benefit from having a player of Rabiot’s creative ability as he would go a long way in addressing some of their midfield concerns. The French sensation primarily operates in the holding midfield position but can also play as a box to box midfielder if needed. The Saint-Maurice born prospect has featured in 20 matches for the Ligue 1 leaders this term, getting his name on the scoresheet twice while providing two assists across all competitions. He has also secured six international caps for the French national team so far in his career.
Overall, Rabiot will be a quality recruit who could potentially address some of Liverpool’s creative woes from this campaign. However, Naby Keita is also an option for Klopp as he can play in a more creative role next season. The Guinean prospect is still settling into life in England, and so, we might not have seen his best days in a Liverpool shirt just yet.
Only time will tell what Klopp decides to do and whether he ends up offering Rabiot a pass to join his revolution at Anfield.
