In a recent interview with France Football (via Football.London), FC Girondins de Bordeaux striker Josh Maja revealed his desire to either move to Arsenal or Barcelona in the future. The English talent told France Football (via Football.London), “I support Barcelona and Arsenal, because they’re my local team. Of course, I’d really like to play in the team with which I grew up.
“It would be great. It’s clear the Premier League is one of the best in the world, with the best teams.
“I hope to play there one day, but for now I’m with Bordeaux, I want to succeed here and we’ll see about the rest later.”
Maja was born in London and came through the youth system of Crystal Palace and Fulham. Hence, it is no surprise to see him support one of the biggest London clubs in Arsenal. The 20-year-old was a decent goal-scorer at Sunderland before his high-profile switch to Bordeaux during the January transfer period.
He had scored 15 goals in 24 matches for the Black Cats in the League One before his move to France. Even though he is yet to find the back of the net for his new club after making five appearances for them in the French top-flight, Maja has massive potential and could be a world-class forward in the coming years.
The English frontman boasts decent pace and can dribble with the ball out in the wide areas. However, he is still quite raw and is unproven at the highest level. Furthermore, he still needs to develop his strength if he plans to prove his worth in the Premier League someday.
The addition of a player of Maja’s potential could bolster Unai Emery’s attacking options in the future. However, for now, the English forward still has a lot of work to do if he wants his dream move to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal currently have two of the most feared strikers in England in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette so there is no way that a youngster like Maja can get any game time at the North London club.
However, things change quickly in football so if Maja can realise his potential in France over the next few years, then he might get a chance to seal a return back to London.
