According to the reports in Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet, Leeds United are going to battle West Ham United for the signature of Amel Mujanic. The young midfielder is yet to sign a professional contract with his current outfit Malmo, and the two clubs from England are looking to pounce on that opportunity.
The 17-year-old has represented Sweden at the u-16 and u-17 level, and he is awaiting his opportunity to represent his club side at the senior level. The midfielder has played for their u-19 team nine times and managed two goals this season.
His agent Ivan Klasnic recently revealed that Mujanic wants to get in the senior team soon. He was quoted as saying, ”Amel thrives in Malmo and wants to fight for a place in the first team. But if he does not get a chance in Malmo, we have to find another solution. There is interest from England and from other countries too. I have tried to contact the sports manager, Mr Andersson, but he does not answer either on the phone or on my SMS. It is very frustrating. I don’t know how they think about Amel.”
The situation doesn’t seem ideal for the young midfielder if we are to take Klasnic at his word, and a move to England could be on the cards. Leeds United are probably one of the best clubs to join for any youngster as Marcelo Bielsa has shown that he is willing to give them chances when the opportunity arises.
Maybe someone like Pontus Jansson can influence Mujanic’s decision to join Leeds United as the central defender is famous for his exploits with Leeds in his home country. It seems clear that his agent rates the player highly, and he feels that the youngster is ready to play football at the senior level.
Leeds United recently signed 17-year-old Mateusz Bogusz in the January transfer window and the Polish youngster is currently thriving for United’s u-23 side. We wouldn’t put it beyond him to make an entry in the senior squad by the end of this season.
However, Bogusz was a first-team starter for Ruch Chorzow when he joined the Whites in January. On the other hand, Mujanic is yet to make an appearance for Malmo’s senior team. The fact that he has represented Sweden at various youth level is an indication that he is top quality and United should look to make a move for this midfielder to improve and increase their pool of youth players.
