Despite years of misery, Leeds are finally showing some intent to reclaim a place in the English top flight where they used to be regulars until 2004. The club went through turmoils ever since, however, regained the lost charm to some extent since Andrea Radrizzani took the ownership. The appointment of iconic Marcelo Bielsa is a statement of intent, and the Whites are now closing in on direct promotion amid fierce contest.
Leeds, meanwhile, have already identified their transfer objectives for the upcoming campaign and are plotting a raid on QPR by roping in Luke Freeman and Ebere Eze, according to talkSport. The duo is being monitored by the Yorkshire giants and would be recruited to enhance the squad depth – something that was lacking this season and troubled the Whites at times.
Freeman, 26, has been one of the Rs’ finest performers this term having notched 8 goals and assisted 4 times in 40 outings across all competitions. But his impact is even more significant than these numbers suggest due to a stupendous presence down the left flank.
The former Arsenal prodigy has made his mark with set-piece attributes, crossing, shooting and dribbling skills along with the ability to build counter-attacking threats banking on his pace, swift skills and lung-busting runs.
Eze, on the other hand, joined QPR from their city rivals Millwall back in 2016 before being loaned out to League Two outfit Wycombe Wanderers the next summer. An impressive spell in Buckinghamshire earned him a regular status in West London and eventually a starting role, mostly as a ‘number 10’ behind marksman Nahki Wells.
The 20-year-old is an exciting prospect for his creativity, expertise in splitting the defensive set-up with through balls as well as the ability to hold on to the ball and creating space for his teammates high up the pitch.
Bielsa has utilised the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Ezgjan Alioski, Tyler Roberts, Jack Clarke and Jack Harrison in multiple attacking roles – either on the flanks or at times centrally to cope up with the injury woes. The flexibility of these Leeds stars often helped the gaffer in claiming desired outcomes but, at the same time, cast doubts over his transfer policy due to a lack of activity in the winter window.
The veteran Argentine prefers resources who could be moulded and utilised in various roles. Therefore, Bielsa must step up the chase for Freeman and Eze who have already showcased their versatility at the Loftus Road.
