The loss against Aberdeen will be looming large on Rangers’ mind, but they need to pick themselves up and prepare for a tough clash against Kilmarnock at Ibrox. There are going to be a lot of disappointed fans who will turn up at Ibrox, and if things don’t go right for Gerrard in this game, then the pressure could further mount on him.
Not too long ago, Rangers put five past Kilmarnock, but the away side would be aware of Rangers’ vulnerability. If they can keep the home side quiet in the first half hour, the pressure and doubt would come back among the Rangers players in front of their home supporters.
Team News
Rangers don’t have much to play for this season. As such we would like to see Gerrard try and tweak a few things for this game. It remains to be seen though whether the manager would stick to the basics or ring in the changes. In terms of injury, there are no fresh concerns for the manager as Jamie Murphy and Graham Dorrans are the only major absentees.
Rangers Predicted Lineup Vs Kilmarnock
Formation (4-4-1-1)
Defence
Allan McGregor is expected to keep his place in goal. We would like to see Nikola Katic given a run in the first team ahead of Joe Worrall who is not going to be a Rangers player beyond this season. Connor Goldson should be his partner in defence.
Andy Halliday should be preferred ahead of Borna Barisic as the Croatian has put in some underwhelming performances at left-back. James Tavernier is likely to continue as a right-back.
Midfield
It has been unfair to Ross McCrorie that he has had to sit out quite a few of the games in the past month. His tenacity and perseverance are exactly what Rangers need as they were almost bullied off the park by the Aberdeen midweek. He should start in midfield
Scott Arfield should partner him in central areas. Ryan Kent has blown hot and cold in the last few games but he should be started on the left side of midfield. Daniel Candeias is going to be in a similar role down the right.
Attack
We would like to see Alfredo Morelos in a secondary striker role playing just off a bigger target man. It was a tough decision to put Kyle Lafferty ahead of Jermain Defoe but Lafferty would just bring a bit more dynamism and aerial threat if he starts as the man up front.
