Liverpool will travel across Stanley Park to face off against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday evening after managing to secure a dominant 5-0 win over Watford in midweek. The Reds are leading the Premier League standings and will head into this clash looking to get maximum points which would ensure that they stay top at the end of this weekend.
However, it won’t be easy for them to do so as the Everton faithful inside Goodison Park won’t make life easy for their arch-rivals. Jurgen Klopp is expected to stick with his favoured 4-3-3 formation for this derby and might name Jordan Henderson in his first-team.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Everton
Defence
Alisson Becker is a nailed-on starter in goal for the away side after he has kept another clean sheet against Watford at Anfield on Wednesday night. Jurgen Klopp might choose to go with the same defensive pairing of Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip as they look to restrict the Everton attackers from scoring this weekend.
Trent-Alexander Arnold was magnificent against the Hornets, and so he should get the nod to start at right-back. Andrew Robertson will look to continue his good form down the left flank.
The Reds are currently sitting in the driver’s sit in the race for the Premier League title and one of the main reasons for their success this season has been their stellar defensive record in the English top-flight. Thus, we can expect another solid display from Klopp’s defenders in this Merseyside derby.
Midfield
The trio of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum could be unleashed at the centre of the park as they look to dictate play and establish Liverpool’s dominance in midfield. James Milner was heavily involved against Watford, and so Klopp might want to manage his game time by not starting him in this derby.
Both Naby Keita and Adam Lallana will accompany the English midfielder on the Liverpool bench.
Attack
Jurgen Klopp will once again rely on the front three of Divock Origi, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to deliver the goals in the attacking third of the pitch. Mane is in a rich vein of form and will fancy his chances against the Toffees.
Origi’s last-minute goal was the difference between the two sides the last time they met in the Premier League earlier in this campaign. So maybe, the Belgian can strike again if the Everton players allow him time and space on the wide areas.
Roberto Firmino is highly unlikely to recover in time to start for the Reds on Sunday, but he might be part of Klopp’s bench if he can pass a late fitness test.
Both Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge could provide some added firepower on the pitch if they are utilised from the bench.
