According to France Football, Everton were in pursuit of the French midfield ace, Lucas Tousart, who is currently plying his trade at Lyon. The player was supposed to be roped in by the Merseyside club to replace their phenomenal midfield ace Idrissa Gana Gueye. The Everton ace was closely linked with a move to Paris Saint Germain in the January transfer window and is hoping that the Ligue 1 giants come back for him.
Everton have not been able to capitalise on a decent start to the season and have failed to perform well in every department as the season has progressed. Their new signings have not had a significant impact on the proceedings so far this season and manager Marco Silva might look to add a few new faces to the squad when the transfer window opens in the summer.
Despite having an underwhelming season so far, the likes of Richarlison and Gueye have stood out with their diligent performances so far. While the Brazilian has done the bulk of the scoring for the Toffees, the Senegalese midfielder has done his bit to keep hold of the ball in the middle of the pitch and deliver the key passes to set up attacks.
However, PSG might come back with a concrete offer for Gueye next summer. The Ligue 1 giants have faced a huge debacle in their pursuit of Champions League glory this season. The absence of a quality midfielder in the heart of the pitch alongside Marco Verratti might be one of the prime reasons why they struggled to recover the ball while vying with the likes of McTominay and Fred during their clash against Manchester United.
The situation is an indication of the fact that it would be a wise move for the Toffees if they go in for the French midfielder Tousart to fill in for Gueye in case the midfielder leaves for PSG. Reportedly, the player rejected offers from Everton in the January transfer window. But, it would be the right decision on the part of Marco Silva to go for the highly rated midfielder. The fact that he is only 21 years old makes the move even more meaningful for the Merseyside club as it would be a futuristic decision for them as well.
The possible departure of Gueye is set to leave a massive hole in the midfield for the Toffees for sure. While it is not yet sure whether they would be able to land Andre Gomes permanently from Barcelona next summer to stabilise their midfield, they should make a renewed attempt to bring Tousart to Goodison Park.
There is little hope for the Toffees to finish among the top eight clubs this season and it would be a wise move for them to start planning for a better campaign in the next season. The inclusion of a top quality player like Tousart in their squad would give them the impetus to achieve the unfulfilled aspirations of finishing in the top 6 in the next term.
