According to CalcioNapoli24, as cited by Sportwitness, Everton are interested in making a move for the versatile right-back Valentino Lazaro next summer. The 23-year-old Austrian has been one of the most highly rated players in the Bundesliga this season and is currently plying his trade for Hertha Berlin.
Everton are not having a good enough campaign as far as the current season is concerned as they failed to capitalise on their decent start. With almost no chance of making it into the top eight, the Toffees seem ready to concentrate on the next term. They might look to add a few new faces to their side in the summer transfer window with Lazaro being one of them.
The 23-year-old right back primarily plays in the defence but is known to be a handy option while playing up the pitch as well. He has good pace paired up with the ability to find the back of the net from a variety of ranges. Lazaro can ply his trade both as a right midfielder as well as a winger.
The Toffees, however, would need him more as a backup option for Seamus Coleman. The Irishman has looked shaky on many occasions this season and has been found struggling against the opposition attackers. He has also lost a yard of pace over the last couple of seasons apart from being prone to injuries.
This is where Lazaro could come into play for Everton. Marco Silva does not have a decent enough option as a backup for Coleman at the present moment. Young Englishman Jonjoe Kenny was deployed on a few occasions this season in the right-back role, but he failed to earn the faith of his manager. So the addition of a top quality player like Lazaro could put an end to the woes for the Merseyside club if they can land him next summer.
The Hertha Berlin star has made 24 appearances this season for the Bundesliga club and has notched up two goals and five assists to show for his efforts on the pitch. Although he does not have any prior experience of playing in the Premier League but given his current form, the young defensive ace could be a risk worth taking for the Toffees
Silva has not been able to make the right decisions in terms of player selection as well as team composition, which has let Everton down. His future at Goodison Park depends on how he fares in the next season and how the team performs under him.
So it is necessary for him to pick the right personnel and provide his side with the right impetus for the next term. The addition of a player like Lazaro could undoubtedly be a step in the right direction for the Portuguese gaffer.
