According to Mail Online, Everton are keeping their tabs on the Ligue 1 striker Rafael Leao. The 19-year-old forward has been a revelation at the French club this season, and the Toffees are reportedly willing to make a move for him in the next transfer window.
Despite enjoying a decent start to the season, Everton have succumbed to a number of defeats, which has seen them go down in the league table. A major setback to their plans to finish among the top eight clubs in the Premier League this season has been the inability of their attackers to deliver consistently, and it is no surprise that they are looking to bring in someone new to lead their attack.
With both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun being disappointing this season so far, manager Marco Silva has had to deploy summer signing Richarlison, who is a winger, as a makeshift striker.
Though the Brazilian has done well to do the bulk of the scoring for the Toffees this season, it would be a great help for him if the club can bring in someone able enough to share the goalscoring responsibilities for the next season.
With seven goals in 19 matches for Lille this season in the Ligue 1, Leao could just be the man to eradicate this crisis at the Merseyside club. His ability to take on the opposition defenders fearlessly could come very handy for the Toffees, as they look to bring in new faces to beef up their squad for the next season.
Everton did spend well in the last summer transfer window, but most of their signings have failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. This time around, the club hierarchy should be much more prudent in their decision making to help Silva build a better squad capable of challenging for a top-eight spot in the league table.
For that, the potential signing of the Portuguese Under 21 international could be a step in the right direction. However, his inexperience of playing in the Premier League could be a detriment to that. So, it is time for Silva and company to take the right decision and hope that they invest the money in the right player who would be able to give them the right amount of dividends in the future.
