According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Everton has identified Red Bull Leipzig forward Jean-Kévin Augustin as their primary transfer target for the summer. Liverpool Echo has mentioned that the Toffees have been linked with the Bundesliga prospect in the past but have failed in all their attempts so far. However, that could change this summer as the Merseyside club looks to strengthen their attack by acquiring the Leipzig talent.
Augustin has been a sporadic feature in Ralf Rangnick’s first-team and has often been deployed from the bench this season. The lack of first-team opportunities has hampered his growth as a striker so a move to Goodison Park might be too lucrative for him to turn down.
The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks of Paris Saint-Germain before his switch to Leipzig in the summer of 2017. The Paris-born talent has won the Ligue 1 with his hometown club and has also secured a French Cup winner’s medal on three occasions during his career.
He is currently an integral member of the French Under-21 team following his success at the Under-19 level when he won the golden boot in the European U-19 Championships in 2016.
Augustin knew what it takes to win during his time in the Ligue 1, but since making a switch to the Bundesliga, he has not won a single trophy so far. Maybe a change of scenery could help him find more joy on the pitch. He has featured in 28 matches for the German outfit this term, finding the back of the net eight times while also providing two assists across all competitions.
The potential acquisition of Augustin will undoubtedly bolster Marco Silva’s attacking options at Goodison Park. Everton have struggled to get the best out of their current striking options of Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. Hence, Augustin could come in and ease their goal-scoring woes next season.
It would be a massive coup for the Toffees if they can find a way to bring the French talent to Merseyside in the summer. The striker will be an excellent signing for Silva’s brand of football and could turn out to be a consistent goal-getter at the Premier League club.
