In a recent interview with Goal.com, Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai revealed that he was ‘honoured’ to be linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe which include Arsenal. Speaking to Goal.com, the Hungarian talent shared his thoughts on the recent speculation linking with a switch away from the Austrian Bundesliga and said,
“There has been a lot of speculation recently [about my future]. Of course, it is a huge honour to be linked with giant clubs like Juventus, Bayern or Arsenal, but at this stage of my career, I only focus on my current duties and my development at Salzburg.
“I am part of a great club and a very successful team. My goal is to earn a regular spot in the midfield. Everything else can only come after that. Every player wants to play in one of the top leagues and the Champions League one day.
“I am not an exception, but there is a lot of work ahead of me to achieve that. I am in a good way, but the journey has only just begun.”
His recent words will come as a welcome bit of news for the Gunners as their academy can benefit from acquiring a player of Szoboszlai’s incredible potential. The 18-year-old came through the youth ranks of Hungarian outfit, MOL Vidi FC before earning a switch to Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2017.
The Hungarian has managed to break into the RB Salzburg senior team and has made seven top-flight appearances while scoring one goal for them thus far. He has also represented his nation at various youth levels and is currently an integral member of the Hungarian Under-21 team.
Szoboszlai is an ambitious midfielder who has shown that he can be a prolific goal-scorer and an assist maker from midfield. He scored six goals while grabbing four assists in nine appearances during his loan spell at FC Liefering in the first half of this campaign.
The potential acquisition of Szoboszlai will undoubtedly bolster Unai Emery’s attacking options in the future. However, for now, the Hungarian youngster needs to work hard and prove his worth at the highest level. Even though he has a promising career ahead in European football, there is always a risk that things might not pan out as expected, so the Gunners are better of monitoring his development from a distance before they commit to bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.
The jury is still out on whether he will be a good fit for the Gunners, but there is no doubt that Szoboszlai could be nurtured into a world-class prospect if given an ideal environment to improve his game over the new few years.
