Celtic’s top job is still up for grabs, and the club is likely to wait until the end of the ongoing season to appoint a permanent manager. If Lennon goes on to deliver the treble, then we feel that it would be hard for the club to look beyond him. However, there is one name that the Hoops should keep an eye on and that is Marco Rose of RB Salzburg.
The 42-year-old has been linked with various jobs in the Bundesliga, and his name is also doing the rounds for Celtic’s top position. Recently Rose spoke about the interest which he is generating from various clubs. He said Skysports Austria via DW, ”I think it’s not so often in your career, that you have a lot of requests and then you have a lot of options. I know what I owe the club, and yet at some point, it’s about my personal situation, about goals, about new challenges, and about making a decision.”
Salzburg recently defeated Celtic in both the games of the Europa League group stages and the Bhoys were played out of the park on most occasions. Rose employs an attacking brand of football which involves a lot of pressing.
They often look to attack through the middle, and the German manager deploys a 4-3-1-2 formation. There is no doubt to us that the 42-year-old will bring a lot of excitement at Celtic Park and he can take this Hoops team to the next level.
However, with some Bundesliga clubs like Schalke and Wolfsburg after him, Celtic might be the second favourites to secure a deal for him. Nevertheless, he should be targeted by the Bhoys, and they should look to do everything in their means to lure him.
Rose learnt his trade from Jurgen Klopp who is considered as one of the top managers in world football right now. The Salzburg manager had spent six years with Klopp’s Mainz where they helped Mainz to move to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.
One can see how Klopp has influenced him as Rose’s team are known for their ‘gegenpressing’ as they try to recover the ball as soon as they give it away. They are quick in transition, and Salzburg’s trust in young players have paid rich dividends. Last season, the Austrian outfit reached the Europa League semi-finals where they defeated clubs like Dortmund and Lazio. This season they lost to last season’s Serie A runner up Napoli 4-3 on aggregate.
Rose seems to be the perfect bet for Celtic, and one can only imagine the excitement which he would bring at Celtic Park.
