According to a recent report by Marca, Barcelona are looking to recoup around £60m for Malcom, who has been linked with Arsenal recently (via the Metro), after the youngster’s rapid rise to prominence in the La Liga. The Metro has also revealed that Unai Emery will have £50m to spend in the summer, but his transfer kitty could be boosted by a further £25m if the Gunners manage to claim a top 4 place at the end of this campaign.
If the Catalans do not change their stance, then it would be quite difficult for the North London outfit to orchestrate a move to bring Malcom to the Emirates Stadium even if they end up securing UEFA Champions League football for next season.
Emery currently lacks depth on the wide areas with Alex Iwobi the only natural winger in his squad. Hence, acquiring someone like Malcom could help the club compete for major trophies in the coming years.
The Brazilian speedster has been a mixed bag for Barca this season as he initially struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp. However, he overcame those early struggles and has looked like a great squad option for Valverde thus far. The 22-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Catalans this term, scoring three goals across all competitions.
Malcom is blessed with decent pace and is a very productive dribbler with the ball which helps him stretch the pitch out in the wide positions. The former Ligue 1 starlet is also versatile enough to operate in multiple roles across the frontline which could be a useful tool for Emery to rely upon if he can sign the player this summer.
Hence, Arsenal should consider splashing the cash on the Brazilian wonderkid as he will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s attacking options at the North London club. The Gunners need to rebuild their squad over the summer transfer period so that they have enough strength in depth heading into the new campaign.
Malcom will not only add squad depth but will also increase competition for places within Emery’s squad. Thus, the North London giants should do everything in their power to land the La Liga sensation next summer even if it means they have to pay over the odds for him.
