According to a recent report by the Sun, Arsenal are prepared to step up their interest on Paris Saint-Germain youngster Christopher Nkunku after Denis Suarez’s unimpressive loan spell at the club this season.
The same source has also revealed that the Gunners tried to sign him on loan during the January transfer window but failed to agree on a deal with PSG. However, Unai Emery is not willing to give up and has made the Ligue 1 prospect a top target for the summer transfer period (via the Sun).
The 21-year-old began his career at PSG and had to work his way up the club’s youth ranks. He finally managed to feature for the French outfit’s ‘B’ team back in 2015. His rapid rise saw him get some first-team runouts at Parc des Princes earlier this season. Even though he was not able to nail down a regular first-team place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, the young winger has managed to impress with the limited opportunities he has received in this campaign.
The Lagny-sur-Marne born talent has featured in 18 league matches for Tuchel’s team this term, scoring three goals while grabbing two assists thus far. He has also managed to represent the French Under-21 side in six matches at the international stage. There is no doubt that Nkunku has massive potential and could be developed into a future star if given a nurturing environment over the next few years.
Emery could be the ideal man to get the best out of his talents at the Emirates Stadium. It is no secret that Arsenal needs more depth in their squad if the club are to challenge for major trophies next season.
The addition of Nkunku will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s attacking options and will also add some natural width down the flanks. Except for Alex Iwobi, Arsenal does not possess any player who can stretch the pitch in the final third. Hence, Nkunku could be that missing option for them due to his incredible versatility.
The French wonderkid primarily operates as a central midfielder but is equally capable of playing on the wings. Thus, the PSG starlet could be a player to look out for which makes him a smart addition for the North London outfit ahead of the new season.
