According to a recent report by the Express, Arsenal are in for a fight with Tottenham Hotspur for securing the services of Pablo Fornals from Villarreal CF. The same source has also revealed that the Gunners boss Unai Emery is looking to offload Mesut Ozil to make room for the La Liga prospect.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a productive campaign with the Yellow Submarine after putting in some match-winning displays for them during this season. The Spanish sensation came through the youth ranks of Malaga before making a switch to Estadio de la Cerámica in the summer of 2017.
Fornals has featured in 39 matches for the La Liga outfit this term, finding the back of the net on four occasions while creating five assists in all competitions. He has also managed to secure two international caps for the Spanish national side so far in his young career.
The Spaniard has all the makings of a great midfielder, but the jury is still out on whether he can perform at such a high level for a sustained period.
Fornals is an excellent passer of the ball and can unlock any defence with his vision. He is also a good dribbler with the ball which helps him beat his marker in midfield. He primarily operates in the number 10 position but can also play on either flank if required.
The addition of Fornals will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s creative options at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal currently have some talented midfielders in their ranks such as Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Denis Suarez. However, Suarez is on loan while Ramsey is set to leave the club at the end of this campaign.
Hence, giving up Ozil to recruit Fornals doesn’t make sense unless the Gunners are willing to sign him outright without having to sell their German talent. The Villarreal prospect is only 23 and is about to embark upon the peak years of his career which the North London outfit could look to benefit from in the next few years. Hence, it is safe to assume that he will be an ideal fit for Emery’s brand of football at the Premier League club.
