According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Arsenal are interested in securing the services of Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera if he decides to leave Old Trafford next summer. The Spanish talent, who will become a free agent when his contract with the Red Devils runs out at the end of this campaign, has recently shed some light on his future and said (via the Daily Mail),
‘I do not concern myself with what will happen in four months, so I do not know if my time here is over.
‘It’s logical when you’ve got three months left on your contact and there is an international break. I knew something would come out.
‘I take it as normal. I focus on playing football in the month-and-a-half that remains (of the season). The rest is left to my agent, both the possible renewal with United and any talks with another club for my departure.
‘I enjoy playing for the biggest club in England. The fans love me, they have treated me phenomenally and my duty is to listen to them – although I honestly do not know what is going to happen.
‘What I see myself is trying to win at Watford next week. If you deserve rewards and if you are an honest and hard-working person, they arrive.’
It is clear from the Man United playmaker’s words that he is only concentrating on matters on the pitch and will wait until the summer to decide on his future. The fact that he is willing to have ‘talks with another club’ will give the Gunners some confidence in pursuit of his services.
Herrera has enjoyed a solid campaign with the Reds of Manchester and has put in some eye-catching displays for them under Ole Gunnar Solkjaer this season. He is an excellent passer of the ball and has also managed to contribute by scoring a few goals going forward.
The 29-year-old has found the back of the net on three occasions while also providing three assists in 25 appearances this term across all competitions. He has been a fantastic squad player at the Theatre of Dreams and will be a big miss if he decided to leave Old Trafford this summer.
On the other hand, Herrera’s acquisition will undoubtedly be a shrewd move for Unai Emery as the Spanish sensation will significantly bolster his midfield options at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal currently have the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny vying for a holding midfield place in Emery’s starting XI.
The former Athletic Bilbao star will provide more competition for them and add some much-needed squad depth which might help the North London outfit challenge for major silverware next season. At 29, Herrera still has a few years left in him to play at the highest level so he will be a decent fit for the Gunners heading into the new campaign.
