According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has revealed that Unai Emery’s previous links with Paris Saint-Germain could help him land the French midfielder Adrien Rabiot during the summer transfer window. The same source has also revealed that the Ligue 1 prospect’s contract at Le Parc des Princes will run out at the end of this campaign and so a whole host of clubs will be interested in recruiting him which includes the Gunners who might have an advantage over their competitors according to Pires.
In a recent interview with bwin, the Arsenal legend shared his thoughts on the transfer and said, “Rabiot is a very good player and Arsenal should be trying their best to secure his signature before any other club does,”
“Arsenal have the advantage of Emery having already worked with him at PSG, which should hopefully sway Rabiot to join Arsenal.
“He would be worth a big fee on the transfer market so the fact he’s free makes it a no brainer.
“If Emery can secure Rabiot then I think he’ll be able to fill the hole that will be left by Ramsey’s departure.”
Pires’ recent comments make a lot of sense as Emery might have the advantage to lure Rabiot to the Emirates Stadium next summer as he still has close ties with PSG. Moreover, the French midfielder will be available for free which makes it a no-brainer for the North London outfit as he can come in and be an ideal replacement for Aaron Ramsey who is set to join Juventus as a free agent in the summer.
Arsenal could benefit by adding some quality to their midfield next summer, and Rabiot could be a perfect acquisition for them as he could be of service to them in the long-run. The likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira have all blown hot and cold for the Gunners during this campaign. If Emery can successfully manage to orchestrate a deal for Rabiot, then the French midfielder will a far more reliable option for them at the middle of the park.
The Ligue 1 sensation won’t have any problems with consistency as he often performs at a high level during his time on the pitch. The potential acquisition of Rabiot could ease Emery’s recent worries in midfield and help the North London giants compete for some major trophies in the coming years.
The French talent has proven his worth in the French top-flight but only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to the Premier League. He primarily plays in a holding midfield role but is equally capable of filling in as a box to box midfielder if required. The 23-year-old has made 20 appearances for PSG this term, registering two goals while providing two assists in all competitions.
Emery should do everything in his power to bring the PSG outcast to the Emirates Stadium next summer as he will be a low-risk signing who would be available for free which means that it will save Emery’s transfer budget for other acquisitions in the summer.
