With the 2018/19 season being a year to forget for Real Madrid, the following season has far higher expectations. More so with Zinedine Zidane back at the helm for his second stint at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Nearly everything has evolved negatively since Zidane last left Real Madrid, with Cristiano Ronaldo moving for internal team rifts. The summer of 2019 promises to be the one with massive changes in the Spanish capital of Madrid, starting from Florentino Perez spending the cash to Zidane identifying the right sort of football for the team.
Several high-profile names have been linked to Real Madrid since Zidane has once again taken command. But it would be an absolute lie to believe in most of these transfer topics. If studied carefully, Los Blancos have had an overall change in their approach to the transfer market and also on how they build their squad in recent years. The Whites no longer have a ‘Galacticos’ approach and are more focused on promoting players from La Fabrica del Real Madrid.
Sergi Reguilon, Lucas Vasquez, Jesus Vallejo, Casemiro, Dani Carvajal, Morja Mayoral, etc. are just a few examples of Real Madrid’s approach lately. Real Madrid’s last transfer record signing was Gareth Bale, which is already six years back in the timeline.
However, this summer one high profile signing is on the cards to fill probably half the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Find out about the three transfer gambles Real Madrid should be making this summer.
Eden Hazard
The Belgian has made several bizarre statements in the past two years or so and has in process hinted at a move away from Stamford Bridge indirectly. His comments have for all certainty invoked media speculation about his future in London.
Hazard would be a perfect fit at the Santiago Bernabeu, and he would undoubtedly link up well with budding talent, Vinicius Junior. It would be one hell of a task for Real Madrid and it’s negotiators to get to terms with the Chelsea board after signing Thibaut Courtois from the Blues just the last summer. If at all a move materialises, the figure would be £100 million upwards and Mateo Kovacic could also be a part of the deal.
Marco Icardi
The Argentine striker has had an unpredicted downfall with the club and players at Inter Milan. Icardi was stripped of the captain’s armband on February 13th following which he has also been reportedly involved in a feud with Marcelo Brozovic. The leading cause of all the chaos at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is believed to be Icardi’s reluctance to put pen to paper over a new deal with the club. The new deal would have led to a significant increase in Icardi’s release clause, which in turn would make his departure difficult.
The 26-year-old poacher has netted over 120 goals in the Serie A and is without a doubt one of the most clinical strikers in world football right now. Icardi would be just the striker Real Madrid have been looking for, someone who can provide 25+ goals each season. At only 26 years of age, he has a good 5-6 years of high-quality football left in him.
Mateo Kovacic
The Croatian midfielder, in all honesty, was too good for the Real Madrid bench and a move away from Santiago Bernabeu was on the cards. However, with Modric now not being able to cope up with the extra responsibilities on him along with age not being on his side, it would be just the right time to have a player of Kovacic’s abilities back in the squad.
Kovacic is more than capable of filling the void in the side in Modric’s absence, and he has proved it with performances on the field. The return of Kovacic would be a long term solution for Real Madrid given that he’s only 24 years of age! Do you recall any other 24 years old with three UEFA Champions League medals?
