Liverpool have done remarkably well in the Premier League so far and have got themselves in a commanding position at the top of the league standings. The Reds are currently occupying the first place with a two-point gap over Manchester City (with a match in hand) in the race for the league title.
However, both teams have started to show some signs of their weaknesses as the season wears on. Jurgen Klopp’s side had a great opportunity to go seven points clear at the top of the league earlier this week but were held at Anfield by a dogged Leicester City team who managed to earn a 1-1 draw on Thursday night.
Even though the Merseyside giants are still in an excellent position, one could easily argue that it might be the first signs of deterioration from the Reds and Man City could take advantage of their potential decline over the coming weeks as the Citizens have the ‘know how’ to win a title race.
However, football is uncertain, and a lot can still happen between now and the end of this campaign. One player who has looked like someone who can make an impact in easing Liverpool’s recent troubles going forward is Adam Lallana. The England prospect has been plagued with injuries throughout his Anfield career and was looking like a shadow of his former self earlier in this campaign.
However, to his credit, his cameo as a substitute against the Foxes in midweek caught the eye as it has been a long time since Lallana looked like a significant threat while he operated in and around the opposition penalty box. At 30, he still has a few years left in his prime and could become a useful asset for the Reds in the near future.
For now, Lallana needs to keep improving in training so that Klopp hands him a rare start soon. Then it will be up to him to prove his doubters wrong and make a significant impact in the final third by scoring and setting up goals from midfield.
The St. Albans born talent is highly versatile as he can play in multiple positions across the frontline. So if he can somehow find a way to link up well with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in the coming weeks, then his contributions on the pitch might just help Liverpool get over the line come May.
The former Southampton star can be a secret weapon for Klopp to utilise as he tries to lead his team to their first ever Premier League title. The 29-year wait for a championship has been quite a burden for the historic club and everyone associated with it. Hence, the Reds manager should now look to use all of his assets to cope with injuries and suspensions better when things get even tougher as the season progresses in the top tier of England.
