Liverpool will entertain Watford at Anfield on Wednesday night looking to return to winning ways after being held by Manchester United to a goalless draw last weekend. The Reds will now have an excellent opportunity to put Manchester City under pressure if they can get the win in midweek.
However, it won’t be easy as the Hornets have done well under Javi Gracia in recent weeks with three successive wins to their name in their last three matches across all competitions which include their emphatic 5-1 victory over Cardiff City last week.
Jurgen Klopp will opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might make three changes to his side for this encounter.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Watford
Defence
Alisson Becker will begin the match in goal for the Merseyside club after the Brazilian shot-stopper managed to keep a crucial clean sheet away at Manchester United in his last league outing. The Liverpool number one keeper has conceded the fewest goals and has held the most cleansheets in the Premier League this season, so he will fancy his chances of securing another shut-out in front of the home supporters at Anfield.
The centre-back pair of Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip should lineup in defence for the Reds as they look to put on another impressive performance at the back in Klopp’s first-team. Trent Alexander-Arnold might get the nod to start at right-back after being rested (?) against the Red Devils. He will look to use his speed and agility to get to the by-line and deliver some dangerous crosses into the box.
Andrew Robertson will hope to link up with Mane and Sturridge in the opposition half as much as possible as he takes his place down the left flank. The Scottish defender has been Liverpool’s most consistent performer this season, so a lot will ride on his shoulders when he takes the pitch to face off against the Hornets in midweek.
The Reds are currently leading the Premier League table by just one point so they cannot afford to drop any more points in the title race. Hence, a solid defensive showing on Wednesday night could give Klopp’s men an ideal platform to push on and get the all-important three points.
Midfield
The trio of Fabinho, Naby Keita and Georginio Wijnaldum could be unleashed at the centre of the pitch. All three of them will look to establish their authority in midfield through hard work and creativity on the ball. Both Jordan Henderson and James Milner struggled to show enough quality on the pitch which is why Klopp might favour Keita for this upcoming clash as he will add a bit more pace and dynamism in the Hornets half.
Attack
Roberto Firmino picked up a knock against Man United last weekend which could keep him out of this midweek contest versus Watford. Hence, Daniel Sturridge might get a rare start alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The front three will be responsible in getting the goals which would make the difference on the night.
