According to a recent report by Calciomercato, West Ham United are ready to reignite their interest on Colombian forward, Duvon Zapata by putting in an improved offer for him in the summer. The same source has also revealed that the Hammers are refusing to give up on the Sampdoria striker who is currently playing on loan for Atalanta.
Zapata has been in a rich vein of form during this campaign and has successfully established himself as one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Europe. The 27-year-old has made a total of 31 appearances for Atalanta this term, scoring 21 goals while creating six assists across all competitions.
His incredible contributions on the pitch have helped the Italian outfit climb to the 5th place in the Serie A standings. Atalanta are still in contention to secure UEFA Champions League football for the next campaign which has mainly been down to Zapata’s brilliant goal scoring record.
The Hammers will do well to recruit him in the summer as Zapata might soon be on the radars of some of Europe’s most elite clubs especially if he can help his side secure a top 4 finish at the end of this season.
The Santiago de Cali born talent has also earned five international caps for the Colombian national team and is expected to play an integral part for his country in the coming years. Zapata boasts remarkable strength and can be quite lethal in front of the opposition goal. He has decent pace and is an effective dribbler with the ball when running down the channels.
The potential acquisition of the Colombian international will undoubtedly bolster Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options at the London Stadium. The Hammers have currently got some talented forwards in their ranks such as Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez who are all competing for a place in Pellegrini’s starting XI. Moreover, the 27-year-old will also add more goals and increase competition for positions within the West Ham squad.
It would be a shrewd move for Pellegrini if he can somehow manage to bring the Sampdoria forward to England as he is precisely the type of talent who can help West Ham challenge for a top 6 place in the next few years.
