Liverpool will make a short journey to Old Trafford to clash heads with Manchester United on Sunday evening looking to earn a win which will take them back to the top of the Premier League standings. With Manchester City set to face off against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, this would be a fantastic opportunity for the Reds to rack up the pressure on the Citizens by finding a way to get the job done away from home against Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to opt for a solid 4-3-3 formation with Virgil Van Dijk set to return from his suspension in the UEFA Champions League.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Alisson Becker will lineup in goal for the away side after he managed to keep an essential clean sheet versus Bayern Munich in his last outing. The Brazilian shot-stopper has conceded the fewest goals and has kept the most cleansheets in the Premier League this season, but he can expect a busy outing while up against one of the most in-form forwards in European football right now in Marcus Rashford.
Liverpool will be boosted by the return of Virgil Van Dijk who had to sit out of the Bayern game due to suspension. He will lineup alongside Joel Matip at the centre of the Reds defence. Trent Alexander-Arnold will look to use his quickness and agility to get to the by-line and deliver some crosses from the right flank.
Andrew Robertson will hope to link up with Mane and Firmino in the opposition half as much as possible. He has arguably been Liverpool’s most consistent performer along with James Milner, so a lot will ride on the Scottish left-back’s shoulders when he laces up to take on the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
Liverpool are currently fighting for the Premier League title so they need to find a way to keep things stable at the back which would give them an ideal platform to go out and come away with a win from the red half of Manchester.
Midfield
The trio of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum could be deployed at the middle of the pitch as Klopp’s men look to dominate the midfield through hard work and creativity on the ball. All three of them have proven their worth in recent weeks and have shown that they are willing to leave everything on the pitch so that their team have a good chance of claiming maximum points.
Both Naby Keita and James Milner will feature on the Liverpool bench and might come on during the contest if required.
Attack
Liverpool’s fabulous front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are guaranteed starters for this away encounter at Old Trafford. However, they don’t have a decent goal-scoring record against the Red Devils which will come as a surprise to a lot of people.
Hence, it’s high time for all three of them to step up and make a difference on Sunday when they lace up to face off against the most in-form team in the Premier League.
