Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Newcastle United at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon looking to continue their push up the Premier League table. Spurs managed to grab the three points against Watford earlier this week which has kept them in the title race. So Mauricio Pochettino’s players will be quite motivated to get the win against the Magpies this weekend.
The North London giants might set-up in a 3-4-2-1 formation with Kieran Trippier expected to come back into Pochettino’s starting XI.

Defence
Hugo Lloris will lineup in between the sticks for the North London outfit after he failed to keep a clean sheet against Watford in midweek. Pochettino might choose to go for a back three once again with Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen operating as the central defenders for this important league clash versus the Magpies on Saturday afternoon.
Spurs were knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup by Chelsea and Crystal Palace respectively with their backline letting in two goals in each of those occasions last week. Thus, Pochettino’s men would need to find a way to keep things solid at the back so that they can come away with a confidence-boosting clean sheet from this weekend.
Midfield
The hard-working pair of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko might be unleashed in central midfield as they look to establish the home side’s dominance at the middle of the park. Danny Rose will stretch the pitch down the left flank while Kieran Trippier would look to deliver some dangerous crosses from the right touchline.
The talented duo of Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son might be deployed ahead of them as part of Pochettino’s attack. Both players need to be at their best if Spurs are to close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Both Ben Davies and Dele Alli can be ruled out of this clash due to injury.
Forward
Fernando Llorente might get another opportunity to impress for Tottenham up top. The Spanish centre-forward squandered some great chances against the Hornets on Wednesday night, but that didn’t stop him from netting a late winner which will give him a lot of confidence going into this weekend’s encounter.
Harry Kane is still out of action with a knee injury so Lucas Moura might be deployed as a makeshift striker from the bench. Erik Lamela might also get a chance to make an impact in this game if Spurs are in need of a goal during the latter stages of this match.
