Newcastle United will play hosts to Huddersfield Town at St. James Park looking to continue their march up the Premier League table. The Magpies need to go on a run of positive results to put some daylight between them and the relegation zone. Thus, a victory against the Terriers this weekend could give their survival hopes a big boost which will also ease some pressure off Rafael Benitez’s shoulders.
However, none of the matches in the English top-flight are easy, so we can expect Huddersfield Town to put in a strong showing away at Tyneside and try to spoil the party for the Toon Army. Benitez will likely go for a 3-4-2-1 formation and play the same team that started against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the previous gameweek.
3-4-2-1 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Huddersfield Town
Defence
Martin Dúbravka will retain his place as the first-choice keeper for the home team after he conceded just three goals in his last four league starts. Benitez might opt for the same back three that started against Wolves in the previous gameweek featuring the likes of Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Lejeune. They would need to put on a solid shift against one of the worst attacking sides in Premier League history.
As long as the Magpies defenders don’t get complacent, they should keep a clean sheet against the Terriers on Saturday afternoon.
Midfield
Sean Longstaff and Isacc Hayden might be asked to feature at the centre of the park as the Tyneside giants look to establish their domination in midfield and stop the Huddersfield players from getting a stranglehold in the game. Matt Ritchie will operate as the playmaker on the left flank while DeAndre Yedlin could look to use his quickness and agility down the right touchline.
Attack
Both Christian Atsu and Ayoze Perez might feature in and around the Huddersfield penalty box. Salomon Rondon is expected to lead the line for the Magpies up front. He has not scored in either of his past two league starts, so the Venezuelan forward will have a point to prove when he laces up to face the Terriers this weekend.
