According to the latest report from the Guardian, Leicester City are expected to make an immediate attempt to bring in Brendan Rodgers after the English club parted ways with Claude Puel. However, the report also adds that the Foxes are willing to wait until the summer to land their target as they are aware that Rodgers would be unwilling to leave the club midway through the season.
This is not the first time that Rodgers has been linked with Leicester City. Celtic fans would definitely be a worried lot as a club like Leicester can attract the Northern Irish manager who has done exceedingly well at Parkhead. His side are well on course to achieve a ‘treble treble’, and they even had a season where they went unbeaten in the domestic games.
Celtic have been dominating the Scottish football landscape for quite some time now. However, there is no doubt that Rodgers has gotten the Hoops to hit new standards and has managed to set the bar high.
Apart from the results; what has made the former Liverpool manager a darling of the Celtic fans is the brand of football which the Bhoys have played since he took over.
Leicester are also interested in bringing in Rafael Benitez whose contract is set to expire with the Magpies in June but Rodgers has remained as the number one target. Professionally, Rodgers might fancy a move to the Premier League given the unprecedented success he has had with Celtic. It really comes down to whether the Northern Irish manager would want a new challenge or not (Our opinion).
There has been a sense of feeling (to us) that Rodgers is destined to move to the Premier League someday and he has been at Parkhead to improve his CV. Leicester have the potential to challenge for the Europa League as they have established themselves as a top half Premier League club. Rodgers would be keen to earn his reputation back in England after he was sacked by Liverpool a few years ago.
Celtic have plateaued as there doesn’t seem to be much challenge in Scottish football at the moment. Rangers have closed the gap this season, but the Hoops are still unchallenged for the most parts. On the European front, Rodgers hasn’t been able to achieve much. But one couldn’t ask more from him with the squad he had at his disposal. At Leicester, he can get a bit more money to work with when it comes to transfers. Celtic should be worried if the former Premier League winners come calling for their manager in the summer.
