According to a recent report by Chronicle Live, Salomon Rondon has disclosed that he is happy to continue with the Tyneside outfit beyond this season provided that a permanent deal could be arranged for him in the summer. The South American forward is currently playing for the Magpies on loan from West Bromwich Albion and has gradually transformed himself into an integral member in Rafael Benitez’s starting XI.
In a recent interview (Chronicle Live) after Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday, Rondon shed some light on his future at St. James’ Park and said, “It means a lot for me because my family’s settled here; my family’s happy.
“I’m happy here but you never know what happens in football.
“I’m on loan – so we will see what happens in the future.”
He also went on to add, “It’s a pleasure to be here; I play with the number nine – no pressure for me, I love that.
“After that, we will see what happens.
“I’m on loan, but, if I have to stay here – for me, it’s a beautiful place.
“If not, I will say ‘thank you’, and we’ll see (what happens) in the future.”
His recent words would be quite encouraging for Benitez’s hopes of landing the player permanently next summer. It is not surprising to hear the striker hinting at a permanent move to Tyneside as he has been sensational for the Magpies over the past couple of months. Rondon has managed to reignite his career at Newcastle and is turning out to be a regular fixture in Benitez’s first-team this season.
On the other end, his parent club West Bromwich Albion are currently playing well in the EFL Championship and are well in contention to clinch a playoff spot at the end of the season. Unless the Baggies manage to secure promotion back to the Premier League, it will be increasingly difficult for them to keep hold of Rondon as he would want to play with the best in the English top-flight.
The 29-year-old frontman has made 23 appearances for the Magpies this term, finding the back of the net eight times while also providing four assists across all competitions. He is also highly experienced at the international level having secured 71 international caps and 21 goals for Venezuela so far in his career.
There is no doubt that Rondon’s recent revelation and current form would be a big boost for Newcastle United and their attempts to secure his services for the long-run.
