Tottenham Hotspur will make a short trip to West London to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night at the back of a disappointing 2-1 loss at the hands of Burnley last weekend. Spurs are currently trailing Liverpool by six points so they can’t afford to drop any more points over the next few weeks if they are to stand a realistic chance of winning the Premier League title.
However, it won’t be easy to get the win against this wounded Chelsea team so Mauricio Pochettino’s men would need to be at their best in midweek. Spurs will lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with Lucas Moura getting a rare start against the Pensioners.
4-4-2 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Hugo Lloris will resume his role in between the sticks for Spurs despite shipping in two goals against Burnley on Saturday. The French keeper will be protected by the defensive pair of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as they line up at the centre of Pochettino’s defence. Kieran Trippier will operate on the right side of the Spurs backline as he aims to cause a few problems for the Chelsea defence going forward. Danny Rose might get the nod to start at left-back as he looks to use his pace and agility down the wide areas.
Spurs have been quite solid defensively throughout this month, so it was a huge surprise to see them crumble against the Clarets last weekend. However, this upcoming match at Stamford Bridge could be an ideal opportunity for them to bounce back and keep the pressure on second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table.
Midfield
Harry Winks will be the defensive lynchpin in midfield while Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen operate just ahead of him looking to create some decent chances in the opposition half. Lucas Moura could get a rare start under Pochettino as an attacking midfielder as he tries to act as a playmaker while also being a significant threat in the final third.
Attack
Pochettino is expected to play both Heung-min Son and Harry Kane up front. Both forwards have been amongst the goals of late so they would fancy their chances of finding the back of the net at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Fernando Llorente will be a part of the Spurs bench and might come on during the match if needed.
