Rangers took on Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. The game ended goalless as both teams failed to find a breakthrough. Therefore we are set for a replay at the Ibrox next in a few days time.
The match was an end to end affair, and it was the away side that had the best of the chances. James Tavernier’s penalty was saved, and Rangers had quite a few decent opportunities to open the scoring. Kilmarnock were always threatening on the counter, and the home team would have been glad that they went in level at halftime.
Both teams lacked the cutting edge to produce any moments of magic in the final third. The second half was entertaining but Rangers players weren’t able to make their domination count.
Here is how Gerrard’s men fared
Allan McGregor 6
Didn’t have to do almost anything in terms of making saves as Kilmarnock failed to get an effort on target. Distributed the ball well.
Joe Worrall 6.5
Was often decisive with his defending and didn’t make any silly errors as he has done over the past few games. Had a chance to win the game in the second half as the Englishman got a free header from a corner but failed to direct it towards the goal.
Connor Goldson 7
An assured performance from him and he never really panicked at the back.
Andy Halliday 7.5
Made a crucial goal-line clearance in the first half. His commitment and dedication were there for everyone to see as he ran tirelessly up and down the pitch from the left.
James Tavernier 5.5
Took a really poor penalty kick. Worked hard and often drove the ball forward from the right. Put in some dangerous crosses as well but failed to produce any telling moment in the final third.
Ross McCrorie 7.5
Was tenacious and industrious in his role in midfield. Had a bad head injury but carried on playing. Won quite a few 50-50 duels in midfield.
Ryan Jack 6
Has become one of the best players for the Gers of late. However, wasn’t able to influence much in terms of attack. Played some neat passes but Gerrard would expect more quality from him on the ball.
Scott Arfield 6
Like Jack, Arfield worked hard but wasn’t able to find that killer pass in the attacking third. An average game overall.
Daniel Candeias 6
Probably one of the hardest working players on the pitch as he pressed like a maniac. However, the Portuguese was guilty of not producing anything meaningful in the final third. His crossing was also below par.
Ryan Kent 6
Couldn’t influence the game even though he tried his best. Can’t fault his work rate though.
Jermain Defoe 6
Had to feed off scraps for the most part but got a big chance in the second half which he failed to put away.
