Liverpool clashed heads with West Ham United at the London Stadium yesterday night looking to come away with maximum points from the contest. The Reds began the match on the front foot and took the lead in the 22nd minute through Sadio Mane’s goal from close range.
However, the home team kept creating chance after chance and were finally rewarded for their positive play when Michail Antonio broke away and beat the offside trap to slot home the ball with a smart finish in the 28th minute.
Both teams fought tooth and nail in the second half but couldn’t add to the goal tally as the match finished 1-1 on the night.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the match against the Hammers.
GK: Alisson Becker – 5/10
The Brazilian keeper made a few errors at the back and didn’t look comfortable on the ball.
RB: James Milner – 6/10
The English talent tried his best to be a threat on the right flank but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CB: Joel Matip – 5/10
The Cameroonian centre-back looked nervy in defence and found it tough dealing with the threat of Javier Hernandez.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 6/10
Another average performance from the Dutch defender! He failed to organise his backline well but did enough defensively to restrict the West Ham attackers to just one goal.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 7/10
The Scottish full-back worked hard for his team and put in some dangerous crosses from the left wing.
CM: Fabinho – 6/10
The Brazilian midfielder tried to be creative in midfield but failed to pick out a final pass.
CM: Naby Keita – 5/10
He was impressive at times but gave away the ball on quite a few occasions in the first half. Keita needs to improve soon or else he might lose his first-team place indefinitely.
LM: Sadio Mane – 7.5/10
The Senegalese winger found the back of the net with a clever turn and finish. He was Liverpool’s only real weapon who managed to be a threat in the opposition half.
CAM: Roberto Firmino – 4/10
The Brazilian forward showed some clever touches in the first half but was poor in the second half which is unlike him.
RM: Adam Lallana – 6/10
The English playmaker got a rare start in Klopp’s first-team and made some neat openings in the first half. However, his impact on the game faded as the match went on.
ST: Mohamed Salah – 5/10
The Egyptian international had a quiet first half but looked more of a threat in the second. He made some neat dribbles but couldn’t find the finishing touch in front of goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Divock Origi – 5/10
He got a golden chance to win it for the Reds in the dying embers of the contest, but his effort was weak and tame.
CAM: Xherdan Shaqiri – 5/10
The Swiss winger linked up well with his teammates but couldn’t find a telling ball in the final third.
