According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have made Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho their top transfer target for the summer transfer window. The same source has also revealed that the Red Devils are quite optimistic about their chances of landing the English youngster if they can secure a top-four spot in the Premier League standings at the end of this campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been a breath of fresh air at Old Trafford since being appointed as the club’s interim boss after Jose Mourinho’s sacking back in December last year. The Norwegian coach has managed to get the best out of the current players at his disposal with his only defeat coming against Paris Saint-Germain last week. There is no doubt that the form of Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial have been crucial for Man United’s recent resurgence under Solskjær.
Hence, one can argue whether the Reds of Manchester need another wide player in the summer especially with a plethora of options already vying for a place in the United first-team. Jadon Sancho won’t be guaranteed regular game time at the Theatre of Dreams which means that staying at Dortmund would be the best move for his career.
The 18-year-old has been enjoying the form of his life at Dortmund after putting in some dazzling displays for them during this campaign. He has featured in 30 matches for the German giants this term, scoring eight goals while grabbing 13 assists across all competitions.
The English prospect already took a huge risk to move to a foreign nation to secure regular first-team minutes so it is illogical to think that he would consider coming back to the Premier League unless he can get assurances over his playing minutes which Man United just cannot provide at the moment.
So unless there is a major overhaul at Old Trafford this summer, it is quite unlikely that the Red Devils would be able to convince the English wonderkid to seal a return back to the Premier League.
However, even though Sancho might not be the best fit for them right now, it could be a massive coup for Ed Woodward and co. if they can pull off this deal as he would be a signing who could bring long-term success for them in the future.
