According to a recent report by Le10 Sport, Manchester United are set to rival Manchester City in pursuit of Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in the summer. The same report has also revealed that the Red Devils have made contact with the French talent’s representatives over a potential switch at the end of this campaign.
The Lyon talent is one of the most highly regarded young midfielders coming out of European football after he put in a series of commanding performances in midfield for Bruno Génésio’s team over the past couple of seasons.
The Ligue 1 sensation came up through the youth ranks of EA Guingamp and SC Amiens respectively before making a switch to the Groupama Stadium to feature for Lyon in the summer of 2017. Ndombele has enjoyed a rich vein of form for the French outfit during this campaign.
The 22-year-old has made 32 appearances for Lyon this term, scoring two goals while providing five assists across all competitions. At such a young age, the Longjumeau born starlet has already managed to secure four international caps for the French national team so far and is in line to play an integral part for his country if he can fulfil his true potential in the coming years.
Ndombele has previously caught the eye with his dazzling displays against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League. The youngster was exceptional during the game at the Etihad Stadium where he sat deep in midfield and shielded the backline well to help his side see out a famous 2-1 victory in Manchester.
The French sensation has a promising career ahead of him, and he could be nurtured into a world-class player in the Premier League if given a chance to prove his value at Old Trafford. Man United have already got the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Fred, Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic to call upon for a midfield berth in their starting XI.
However, the potential acquisition of Ndombele would bolster the club’s midfield options significantly and add more competition for places within the Red Devils squad. Hence, Ed Woodward and co. should do everything in their power to win the race to sign him in the summer as he could turn out to be a clever long-term addition for the Mancunian heavyweights.
